Ferry/Train Crossing Training
VDO have created a tachograph course on their eLearning platform in order to support both drivers and Fleets with using the Ferry/Train mode on International and some National (between Great Britian and Northern Ireland) journeys.
The course is designed to go through when to use the Ferry/Train crossing mode, what it means, and how to set it on digital and smart tachographs.
The course is great for new and occasional drivers, but can also act as a refresher for more experienced regular drivers or where additional training may be required. The course contains a small test to make sure the content was understood by the candidates, and then on successful completion, a certificate is generated.
The course can be used as a prerequisite to practising setting the train/ferry mode VDO's online tachograph simulator, installing the basic knowledge and understanding beforehand.
Please note that to register for the VDO eLearning platform and set a password, you will need to go to https://my.vdo.com/. You will need to click register and complete a very short form. Once this is done, you will see a dashboard full of information and support – please go to and click on the following tile:
You will be taken to a new screen where you will be asked to ‘Login’ or ‘Register’ again – please click login (you will not be required to re-enter any details), then you will be forwarded straight to the dashboard containing all the courses.
The ‘UK Driver - Ferry/Train Crossing’ course is the training that you will want, but you will also see other courses which are allocated automatically and free for you to complete, such as those on the new features and operation of the smart tachograph version 2.
This course will be allocated to the email address linked to the account where the purchase is made. Please only purchase this course once. If purchasing on behalf of someone else, please contact VDO directly. If multiple purchases need to be made for multiple drivers, the drivers will need an individual email address and this will need to be communicated to the VDO team with all relevant first names and surnames in order to get them regsitered and the course allocated correctly. It may take upto 72 hours for the paid course to reach your dashboard. Please contact the VDO team should you have any questions or trouble accessing the course and/or platform.
